Patrick, I don't remember the gospel singer you mentioned.  Many, many years ago I sang with a gospel quartet in Pensacola.  I sang with a group called the Gulf Coast Quartet (or something like that).  We sang at the same locations where the old Gospel Melody Quartet (Later the Florida Boys) with J. G. Whitfield.  We used the old Stamps-Baxter song books with shaped notes (7 shapes).  That was in my young days in the 1950's.  I guess the Florida Boys still sing, but I think J. G. Whitfield has passed away.

Anyhow, I still like gospel music.  My favorite now is Chuck Wagon Gang.  There are some family members of the original group that sing with them now.  The alto singer is grand-daughter of the original alto.

Great jukebox.  Would love to have one that plays cds. Have over 200 cds with everything from country to classical.  I joined an MP3 club online and downloaded between 2-3 thousand artists and burned them on cds.  I still have hundreds on this computer that need to be burned.
But I like Elvis Presley for gospel and Judy Collin's Amazing Grace (acapella), and all big bands, doo-wop, instrumentalist like Scott Joplin, W.C.Handy, Fats Domino, Fats Waller, Django Reinhardt, and orchestras like James Last, Bert Kaempfert, Sidney Becket, Aker Bilk...lots of others.  I like vocalists like Eva Cassidy, Corrine Bailey Ray.  Enya.  Peruvian Pan Flute.  Boy, I could go on and on.  I like some of the groups in the 80's, but very few.  No hard rock and absolutely NO RAP.
I played piano many years and kept a keyboard fired up most of the time, but got arthritis in my index finger.  Age has its limitations, but fortunately, I can still hear.
I almost missed this forum, glad I got a chance to see what all you like.  And a singer, wow, that's great.  I couldn't sing if my life depended on it. (That is envy speaking.)

Boy can I relate.LOL I sang in my high school chorus but that was it. I was an alto..and we were really pretty good. But over the years..NO WAY..

I envy you SO much for being able to play the piano..I have always wanted to do that..My hope now as I posted before is to have my grand daughter play. Some of my family members have had keyboards over the years but I don't find the same feeling with those as I do a real piano. We had an organ at one time also but again,it just wasn't the same. I'm hoping to have one by the time my grand daughter is 5 yrs.old. Is that to young? I really have no idea at what age she should start getting used to the piano.

Five is a good age.  My daughter started at about 8 and I  wished that she had started earlier.  We always had a piano in the house so she would fool around on it, but I didn't take it seriously enough to get a teacher.  Finally, when I did, my daughter told the teacher that all she wanted to learn to play was "The Entertainer" and "Silent Night" (I didn't know she told her that)One day the teacher said, with great relief, "We're done."  That's when I learn about their deal.  My daughter learned enough to play other music, but we sure heard "The Entertainer" a lot.

The Entertainer? To cute. Was it one of those things that she played over and over and over?LOL

I would love to see my granddaughter in music recitals and things..I just feel that the good things from the past are dying off. Playing a musical instrument being one of them..it's not like I want her to take up the Tuba or something. I have a feeling that IF she doesn't get into piano lessons..I may just do it. They say it's never to late to learn. I have an older sister that is 58 who has gone back to college to get her last 2 years, to finish her degree to work for non-profits.She's actually doing very very well. No distractions like partying..LOL
